What’s happening in the society in which I live? What do people do and what do they think? Which topics cause commotion and what are the narratives? Where does the fire ignite, and what are the personal stories behind it?

These are questions that continue to fascinate and fuel me.

Apart from black and white street photography – in which I’m looking look for lines, shapes and silhouettes – I try to document what is going on in the world and what moves people.

Storytelling

A fraction of the enormous amount of societal events I try to grab for a second, visually and from close by, to capture the intensity right there where you can taste the emotions best. Storytelling in practice, at the heart of the action.

Thermometer

Political demonstration, of any stripe, is currently one of my photographic subjects. I focus on what is brewing politically on the surface and immerse myself in the most diverse environments.

With my camera I try to measure the temperature, whatever the context might be. What I photograph is independent of my personal beliefs.

What’s buzzing?

On the other hand, I use my lens to portray what is smoldering beneath the surface, in more enclosed circles. One of my topics there is contemporary rave culture.

Also here applies that my pictures don’t reflect my opinion. I capture what is buzzing within a large group of citizens and try to photograph the energy that is being created, as narratively as possible, to document a specific snippet of our era.

Other animals

The biggest chunk of the week, I work for an international NGO with the aim of protecting wildlife and the environment, restoring biodiversity, and creating a future in which humans live in harmony with nature.

A healthy nature is the foundation for all life on Earth. It is the cornerstone we depend on for essential things like food, air and water.

We must preserve nature for our own well-being, the well-being of other sentient beings like animals, and for future generations.
